General Info
The Troop receives a number of offers for Scouts (and sometimes other family members) to attend events at reduced prices. The events listed below are not part of the Troop’s regular activity program; rather, the events are “extra curricular.” If a registered parent is interested in leading Scout participation in one of these events, the parent should contact the Committee Chair first. The Chair will put out an email-type announcement for Scouts/parents to contact you. Generally, you will be the event-leader for that event for just the stated date.
As the event leader you will be responsible for communications with the Scouts/parents who’ve expressed interest in participating in the event. You will be further responsible for the following needs and requirements:
-Safety and Security
-Two Deep Leadership
-Overall Communications
-Collection of Money
-Provision for Meals
-Carpooling
-Meeting Scout Uniform Requirements
-Proper Attire
-Scout Behavior
-Maintaining Parent Emergency Contact Info
-Update Committee Chair a Couple Days Before the Event
Two-deep leadership must encompass at least the following:
Two registered adult leaders, or one registered adult and a parent of a participating Scout, one of whom must be at least 21 years of age or older, are required for all trips or outings. It is preferred that each vehicle have two adults in it. If you cannot provide two adults for each vehicle (because you need to take multiple vehicles), the minimum required is one adult and at least two youth members per vehicle—never one on one (unless it is your own child).
Events that involve over-night stays and/or out-of town travel usually have more stringent requirements. In these situations, contact the Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, and/or the “Guide to Safe Scouting,” for a fuller understanding of the requirements.
